Schizanchyium is also known as little blue stem and is native to fields, prairies, roadsides and open woods throughout Alberta to Quebec Canada, Arizona and Florida. This plant is easy to grow in dry to medium well drained soil and loves full sun. It is tolerant of high heat and humidity and even performs well in poor soils. Once established is drought resistant. Plant in full sun to avoid falling over late in the season. ‘Standing Ovation’ was discovered as a naturally occurring whole plant mutation in Landenberg, Pennsylvania in the summer of 2003. Parentage is unknown, but ‘The Blues’ is considered to be a likely parent. U.S. Plant Patent PP25,202 was issued on December 30, 2014.
