Miscanthus Ferner Osten (German expression for Far East) is a versatile, tall perennial ornamental grass commonly called Maiden Grass. Ferner Osten is a beautiful, graceful grass with mounds of narrow foliage that explode with showy flowers in a coppery bright red color in Autumn. The flowers in the fall are maroon and open into fluffy graceful cotton-like silvery plumes. These plumes can be left on the plant for the winter tied up; then cut the clump back in early spring. Ferner Osten prefers full-sun and partial shade in almost any soil (acidic to alkaline), a low-maintenance plant that is good for wet or dry gardens.
