Acer palmatum 'Tamukeyama' (Japanese Maple) is a dwarf, mound-forming, deciduous shrub or small tree with strongly cascading branches forming a graceful, dome-shaped specimen. The delicate foliage of finely cut leaves (cutleaf/laceleaf) emerges deep crimson red in the spring and changes to a very dark purple-red in the summer. In habit, its canopy often takes on a dome-like form, especially when mature. The leaves are 4–12 cm (11⁄2–43⁄4 in) long and wide, palmately lobed with five, seven, or nine acutely pointed lobes. The flowers are produced in small cymes, the individual flowers with five red or purple sepals and five whitish petals. This tree is low maintenance and holds up extremely well in heat and humidity.
